Tom H. Shea, Chairman & Founder
With backgrounds in Human Resources, Tom Shea and his wife Maureen founded Florida’s first corporate outplacement firm, Shea Associates, in 1979. They built a strong Florida-based clientele and joined the Association of Outplacement Firms International to expand their national and international referral base. They were invited to join and became active members of the United Nations Business Council which elevated their brand further. When Right Management was founded with the goal of uniting many independent outplacement firms under one banner, Shea Associates with its strong Florida/Caribbean client base, understood the value and became one of the early members. Right Management expanded globally and grew its services to also include executive coaching, assessment and leadership development in a growing talent management practice. After going public, Right Management became and remains a subsidiary of Manpower Group.
With his respected experience in the employment industry, Tom served two terms as a Director of the Federal Reserve during the tenure of Chairman Ben Bernanke. Tom has been called upon as an expert speaker and panelist by major news organizations and has appeared on CNN, CNN International, ABC, CBS and NBC. With his finger on the pulse of the region’s business community, he is a weekly contributor to the Sun-Sentinel’s South Florida 100 Opinion section. Florida Trend named him to their listing of Florida’s 500 most influential business leaders.
Tom has earned the Sun Sentinel Business Leader of the Year Excalibur Award and was inducted into the NSU Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. He has served as Chairman of the Board of the Florida State University School of Business, Center for Human Resource Management, an Executive Committee member of the Broward Workshop and a Board member of the Florida Council on Economic Education. He also founded the South Florida Senior Human Resources Roundtable.
Tom is a recipient of the United Way’s Corporate Citizen Award, recognized with the Silver Medallion by the National Council for Community & Justice, and has been inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame. He also received the Diamond CEO Award from the South Florida Business Journal and the Lifetime Achievement Award from South Florida Business and Wealth. He continues his active virtual involvement in a number of business and community organizations.
